Instead of spending the extended Thanksgiving weekend eating every variation of turkey possible, why not take these cherished free days and escape to Lake Geneva for a Wisconsin holiday? Spread out in The Cove's luxurious lakeside suites, watch the games, walk to downtown shopping and local fare, take a dip in our indoor pool - and even heat up those Thanksgiving leftovers in your room's kitchen!
Conveniently located about an hour's drive from Milwaukee and just a bit further from Chicago and Madison, Lake Geneva feels worlds away, yet this charming resort town is easy to reach and enjoy. Following are a few of our tips for the four-day holiday.
- Gobble, gobble. Spend Thanksgiving with the family or make a reservation at Geneva National's Hunt Club Steakhouse. Nestled in the woods along the signature Gary Player golf course, the historic Crane manor is home to custom-created, flavorful fare frequently foraged and sourced locally. Select from fall menu favorites or select the traditional turkey and fixings.
- Map it Out. Make the most of the long weekend with a loose plan. Spend Saturday exploring the quaint downtown stores, sipping peppermint lattes and strolling the Geneva Lake Shore Path - all just footsteps from the Cove. Get in the spirit see the Fireside Theatre's "It's a Wonderful Life, " cut down your tree at Countryside farm , or book a ride on the Christmas Express, a magical electric train ride from the East Troy depot to Santa's workshop at the Elegant Farmer. (Reservations strongly encouraged.)
- Grab groceries. Because the Cove's unique suites feature living rooms, separate bedrooms and kitchens, you can save time and money by preparing your meals in your Lake Geneva pied-à-terre … or not. The town offers a plethora of dining options, from a farm-to-table Simple breakfast and Oakfire Pizza lunch to wine tasting and a musical interlude at Studio Winery and dinner at the family-friendly Sprecher's Restaurant and Pub.
- Layer it on. Pack for whatever the Mother Nature brings. Lake Geneva is beautiful in every season - especially in the proper attire. As they say at Clear Water Outdoor, "There is no bad weather, just bad gear." (If you get here and find yours isn't up to snuff, they'd be happy to outfit you.) What's more, if the snow comes early, there are hills to sled and ski down and snow shoes and cross-country skis to rent … because there is always plenty to do in Lake Geneva!
Reserve your room close to the action - across the street from Geneva Lake and just a block from downtown - at The Cove of Lake Geneva. Our suites are the closest thing to your own condo on the lake! Call 262.249.9460 for details.
